Intermediate Raster Analysis

This course will cover two methods of raster analysis, filters and kernel density. Filters are used in GIS to change values over a group of cells. Commonly, filters are used to smooth the results of raster processing, such as the slope derived from a digital elevation model. Kernel density is used to convert vector data to raster data in the case of feature data, where the presence or absence of data is the attribute of interest, we cannot interpolate. Instead, we can count up the phenomena and estimate the density of the phenomena using a kernel density estimator.
